A buyer has been found for the St John Healthcare Shop on the Rohais.
It was due to close next week after the charity said it could not operate the facility in the current economic climate.
Guardian Medical, which has been operating in Jersey for more than 25 years, has taken on the business with plans to eventually relocate it.
“We’re delighted that we have been able to align our entry into Guernsey with St John’s handover of its retail product supply operation,” said Martin Fitzgerald, on behalf of both Guardian Medical Jersey Limited and Guardian Medical Guernsey Limited.
“We believe that the degree of continuity of staffing will be welcomed by customers, providing excellent service and reassurance from familiar surroundings and with easy access for all.
“In addition, our scale and service culture will help to maintain a useful competitive environment within the Guernsey market for essential mobility equipment and a wide range of quality healthcare products. In due course, our new location will also overcome the growing constraints of running a successful retail operation in the middle of an increasingly busy emergency ambulance station.”
Heather Langlois, Chief Executive Officer of the St John Ambulance Guernsey charity, said the shop would immediately resume business as usual.
Guardian Medical management takeover fully on 20 February.
“We were very open in January in explaining to staff, customers and the whole community of the need for a change, which was inherently disappointing for us,” said Mrs Langlois.
“Our excellent team of dedicated and passionate staff had grown the business, serving individuals and the majority of local care homes, in the face of other local competition and I’m pleased that our existing team are now able to continue serving the community, continuing to provide experience and expertise under new management.”
The board has had discussions with various interested parties before reaching the deal.
