A five storey town house at Lower Hauteville caught fire on Monday night.
At the end of what was already a busy day for Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service, firefighters were called to the densely populated part of town at 21:30.
Images captured from the area around Les Cotils showed the extent of the fire as black smoke could be seen across St Peter Port Harbour.
The island's Joint Emergency Services Control Centre, which handles all 999 calls, said this had been a busy day for the fire service with a number of call outs including two to attend what turned out to be "controlled burns" during the afternoon, as well as a gorse fire at Pleinheaume earlier in the day.
A spokesman said it was believed everyone inside the multi occupancy building was evacuated safely, with no reported injuries as the fire still burned at 22:10.
The flames were all out by 23:30 but the fire fighters were expected to remain at the scene for some time to keep the area damp and to make sure it was safe. The road was staying closed until further notice.
