Guernsey Lions Club gives young artists chance to shine with poster competition

The Guernsey Lions Club recently held their annual International Peace Poster Contest, inviting 11-13-year-old students from St. Sampson's and Les Beaucamps High Schools to create artwork reflecting the theme 'Peace Without Limits'.

Over 30 entries were received, with school-level winners selected to compete in the District Final in ‘Central Southern England’ grouping.

Those winners were Aurelia Simon from St Sampsons High School and Emily Kreckler from Les Beaucamps High School.

While the two Guernsey entries were not successful in the District Final, the Lions Club still expressed how the competition provided a 'valuable opportunity' for students to express their artistic talents and explore the concept of peace.

Over the last 20 years, more than four million children from 100 countries have participated in the contest, with the Guernsey Lions Club first taking part in 2019.

The International judging will take place in January where the Grand Prize winner is invited to a special award ceremony at Lions Day with the United Nations in New York.

The Guernsey Lions Club said they would like to "thank the Art teachers and students of St Sampsons and Les Beaucamps for supporting the competition” and added that they “look forward to working with them and with other schools in the Bailiwick in 2025 when the next competition will be launched”.
