Guernsey Arts: What's on

Friday 21 June 2024

Along with the picturesque cliffs and stunning beaches, Guernsey’s vibrant creative scene is certainly another of our island's assets.

Whether you’re looking for a way to unwind, wanting to try something new, or just fancy seeing what the fabulous world of arts has to offer; look no further.

Liberate Art Club

Liberate Art Club have been celebrating David Robilliard this Pride Month, and they're back with another session on Saturday the 22nd of June!

Come and make some art inspired by 'the Greatest Guernsey Artist you've never heard of', to keep making noise about David Robilliard's incredible work.

"We're so grateful to everyone who got involved at Arts Seafront Sunday recently - if you missed out, here's another chance to make some work inspired by DR which we plan to exhibit in future!"

The venue is TBC for now, but Liberate ask anyone who may be joining to click 'Going' on the online event to keep updated.

Art at The Park: ‘Where the Land Meets the Sea’ by Gill Harrison

Open from Tuesday the 25th of June, the Art at The Park Gallery welcomes their latest exhibiting artist; Gill Harrison!

Gill has lived in Guernsey for over 30 years and is inspired daily by the interface between the water and the land - reflections in the sand and unfolding scenery.

Painting mainly using watercolour and oils, Gill also finds herself fascinated by the distortions and patterns created by light travelling through, and reflecting off, the water off our island shores.

The exhibition will be on display at National Trust of Guernsey’s Art at The Park Gallery, The Folk and Costume Museum, Saumarez Park from Tuesday 25th June to Friday 19th July. Open 10am–5pm seven days a week.

Admission is free and the Museum is access-friendly.

MTG presents: Priscilla, The Musical

Based on the smash-hit movie, PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT is the heartwarming, uplifting adventure of three drag queens, Tick, Bernadette and Adam, who agree to take their show to the middle of the Australian outback. They hop aboard a battered old bus (nicknamed Priscilla) searching for love and friendship and end up finding more than they ever imagined.

With a dazzling array of outrageous costumes and a hit parade of dance floor favourites including ‘It's Raining Men’, ‘I Will Survive’, ‘Hot Stuff’, ‘Boogie Wonderland’, ‘Go West’, ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ and ‘I Love The Nightlife’; this wildly fresh and funny musical is a journey to the heart of FABULOUS!

A total of 6 performances are due to grace the stage of The Princess Royal Centre for the Performing Arts, from the 24th - 29th of June.

THE MARQUESSES OF BUTE: PATRONS OF OPULENCE

Join The Arts Society Guernsey for the latest of their insightful lectures, taking place at Les Cotils on Wednesday the 26th of June, .

The Marquesses of Bute rose to prominence during the eighteenth century. The extraordinary buildings of the scholarly third Marquess include Mount Stuart, his own home in Scotland, once memorably described as being “like a head on collision between the Taj Mahal and a Victorian railway hotel”. This lecture looks at both personalities and buildings, and examines the Bute’s legacy of craftsmanship and creativity.

Lecturer, Matthew Williams, holds degrees from the Universities of Nottingham and Manchester and is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. He was Curator of Cardiff Castle for nearly 30 years.

Doors open at 6pm and the lecture is from 7pm to 8pm. Entrance is free to members; non-members will be admitted upon payment of £15 at the door, if space permits.
