The front garden of Government House will be open to the public tomorrow for a 'grand summer Charities Fete'.
The Lieutenant-Governor extended an invitation to the Association of Guernsey Charities to host the event in the grounds, for the benefit of a wide variety of local organisations, with going on 40 charities set to attend.
The event will be kicking off tomorrow, Saturday 20 July, at 12:00 and run through until 16:00. In addition to all of the charity stalls, there will be a variety of entertainment, including music, singing, and a display by the Island Dog Training Club.
Malcolm Woodhams, Chairman of the Association of Guernsey Charities, said, “We are extremely grateful to His Excellency Sir Ian and Lady Corder for generously opening the grounds of Government House and inviting local charities to participate in this very special occasion. Last year was the first time that we held this event, and it was seen by everyone as a great success. Having listened to some feedback, this year the Charities Fete opens at 12:00 and there will be hot and cold food choices, drinks, and snacks.
"So long as the weather remains good, we are hoping for lots of visitors. We are sure that there will be plenty of interest for all the family, and the afternoon will be great fun”.
Some charities will be using the event to sell small items or run competitions, while others have planned various activities where visitors can take part. In addition to entertainment in the main arena, there will be static exhibits including Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service.
Mr Woodhams added: “The grounds of Government House are a unique and lovely setting to hold the Charities Fete, and we are pleased that more charities than last year have been keen to sign up. Some of our smaller organisations would never usually get the opportunity to participate in a high profile event such as this, so it’s wonderful that so many will be represented”.
The Association said it was grateful to several local companies for their generosity in supporting the Charities Fete, including Rothschild and Co, Heritage Insurance, Guernsey Soroptimists, and Smith Signs.
The Government House Charities Fete opens at 12:00 and is free of charge to visit – although there is a £2 donation to the Guernsey Scouts if you wish to park at either Government House or Beechwood. Visitors are asked not to bring pets.
