Good luck to Cait and Lily!

Friday 19 January 2024

Two Guernsey girls have been shortlisted for the global 2024 Sovereign Art Foundation prize, a year after a boy from the island won the 2023 award.

Cait Le Noury and Lily Parkes, who are both pupils at The Ladies' College, won the Guernsey Students’ Prize.

That means their individual art works will now be considered alongside entries created by students from across the world before the global prize is awarded.

As part of the judging process Cait's entry; 'Flowers of Joy' and Lily's entry; 'Guernsey Now and Then' are included in an online exhibition HERE

Both pictures are being considered alongside the work of the 14 other shortlisted young artists from Chester, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Isle of Man, London, Malta and Gozo, Portugal and Mauritius.

All of these finalists have been named as winners in their respective regions during 2023, being selected either by a local judging panel or through cinching the popular vote from members of the public in their area.

All of the artworks are on display in an online exhibition which runs until 31 January.

The winners of the 2024 Sovereign Art Foundation Global Prize will be announced on 5 February.

Another prizes to be awarded is the Global Judges’ Prize for the student selected by a jury comprised of noted professionals, including: Howard Bilton, Founder and Chairman of SAF; Tiffany Pinkstone, Co-founder & Executive director of SAF; Sara Mao, Director and Auctioneer at Christies Education Asia Pacific and Tanya Michele Amador, Independent Curator.

Cait and Lily are following in the footsteps of Jacques Loveridge - a pupil at Blanchelande College - who won the Guernsey award in 2022 before claiming the global prize for 2023 for his work 'Galactic Archway'.

His spectacular entry was composed of nine photographs with a 1-minute exposure time stitched together to create a view of the Milky Way, distorted in an arch shape.

His global win meant he scooped £800 for himself and £2,000 for his school, adding to prize money from winning the local public vote which earned him £400 and £1,000 for his school.

The Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF) launched in Hong Kong in 2003 and since then it has supported talented young artists from ten different countries. The Foundation awards £4,300 in grants to the winning artists and their schools.

The non-profit organisation also raises funds for various charitable programmes.
