The 50th anniversary of the Guernsey Rowing Club is being celebrated over two weekends, with some of the races having already taken place and another due to be competed this coming weekend.

Last weekend, rowers - photographed by Mark Windsor - competed in a number of Beach Sprints, as well as the St Peter Port to Chouet and Chouet to St Peter Port races.

A spokesperson for the Guernsey Rowing Club said: "Well done to all the crews who took part in Saturday’s race, great times with many new course records. It was great to be joined by His Excellency, the Lieutenant Governer on the row to St Peter Port to Chouet. Shout out to TPA who received the fastest time of the day, in an impressive 40:05!"

His Excellency, Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell joined the crew of Boat 84 sponsored by 'Paul's Motors' for Saturday's race. Nicky Will was Cox with Ben Vaudin (Captain), Kippy McClean, and Paul Montague rowing too.

After the race last Saturday the rowers and guard boaters, and their friends and family gathered on the beach at Chouet for drinks and entertainment.

The club's summer party was then held at RocSalt before the return race departed Chouet at 15:00 on Sunday, with the teams heading back to St Peter Port.

The Saturday race from St Peter Port to Chouet saw entrants across six categories.

The Mixed Doubles was won by Swim Smooth Channel Islands, while the Ladies Doubles was won by Two Little Ducks and the Men's Doubles was won by Swoffers.

The Ladies' Quads was won by Nigellas, the Men's Quads by TPA and the Mixed Quads by Le Mont Saint Garage.

The two remaining events in the 50th Regatta celebrations calendar are the round Jethou race this coming Saturday - postponed due to fog last weekend - and then the closing 'Rowunion' event at the Guernsey Yacht Club on Sunday evening.

Following the large turnout for last weekend's 50th anniversary races, a similarly large turnout is expected this coming weekend too.

The Guernsey Rowing Club wished to thank all all the race officials and guard boats for volunteering their time to enable the races to go ahead, as well as the organising committee for the 50th anniversary events.

Thanks were also extended to the main club sponsor Ravenscroft Group, as well as Venture Auto Locksmiths and The Fort Group
