The ladies behind the charity Bright Tights are counting the cash this week after another successful fundraising and awareness raising day.

Friday saw events including the first sunrise swim for Bright Tights day, and an Afternoon Tea at Les Cotils - which together have brought in around £3,000 already.

Becky Duquemin from the charity said the sunrise swim was "amazing" with between 200 and 300 people turning up at dawn to swim at La Vallette.

They were rewarded with a hot drink after taking their dip.

Mrs Duquemin said the atmosphere was "buzzing", suggesting it might be a regular fixture in the Bright Tights calendar going forward.

The charity had asked for a £10 donation from each swimmer, to be exchanged for a hot drink token from the cafe at the Bathing Pools.

While the swim kick started the day, events brightened up further with the afternoon tea at Les Cotils.

Bright Tights provides practical, financial and emotional support to women in the Bailiwick diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer (womb, ovary, vulva, vagina and cervix). It also aims to raise awareness of the symptoms of gynaecological cancers, and to support research into better detection and improved treatment.

Regular support group meetings are organised for Guernsey women diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer where they are able to chat confidentially and support one another.

Money can be paid to Bright Tights sort code:40 22 25 account number: 84340477 or at any HSBC Bank or sent to The Treasurer Bright Tights, Mrs A Battye, Victoria House, New Road, St Sampson’s GY2 4QD.
