A new restaurant could open on Smith Street if planning permission is granted to convert the former post office site into an eatery instead.
The building which makes a corner on the left hand side of the road, half way up Smith Street, has been empty since Guernsey Post vacated it in 2021.
Guernsey Post had moved into it after vacating their larger premises on the opposite side of the road. Now, Naftel Associates has applied for planning permission to convert the premises with a change of use requested, on behalf of The Hook.
If approved, the building would be re-classified as a restaurant.
The plans, drawn up by Naftel Associates, include proposals for a Tapas bar which could seat up to 23 people, a restaurant for up to 55 guests, a private dining room, unisex and accessible toilets, a cloakroom and an open plan kitchen.
The property already has an accessible entrance with a ramp at one door and steps to another.
Pictured: The property, which covers a large area on Smith Street, in the centre of town, is currently advertised by Watts Property Consultants, offering more than 2,000 square feet of space split between the main retail space, offices, and storage.
Gary Naftel, Director of Naftel Associates, said "we are very excited about this application".
If approved, he said the plans would allow work to alter the means of access and enable the addition of a new extractor, necessary for a commercial kitchen.
"The proposed layout is indicative of the intended restaurant and if we obtain planning permission for these changes then the interior and final layout will then be fully developed," Mr Naftel explained.
"We feel this is a fantastic location and the dining areas will be vibrant with lots of natural light, open plan and direct views into the kitchen where all the action happens.
"Diners will be able to engage with the kitchen and watch them prepare the food which will be a great dining experience.
"The applicant is the owners of The Hook and they have an excellent vision in place for the new restaurant."
The Hook's owners also manage Fukku in the Commercial Arcade and they used to run the former-Townhouse Bar overlooking the High Street.
