Government House today announced the death of Lieutenant General Sir Alexander Boswell KCB, CBE, who served as Lieutenant-Governor of Guernsey between 1985 and 1990.
Sir Alexander, who was widely known as Sandy, died at his home on Saturday.
During his time in Guernsey, Sir Alexander introduced the Lieutenant-Governor's Cadet Scheme, which is still running today.
Sir Sandy was born on 3 August 1928. He had a long and distinguished career in the British Army. Immediately before his appointment as Lieutenant-Governor, he was General Officer Commanding in Scotland, and before that he commanded 2nd Armoured Division.
He was mentioned in despatches for his services in Borneo during the Indonesia-Malaysia confrontation of the mid-1960s. In 1974, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for his work in Northern Ireland during the Troubles.
Sir Sandy's wife, Lady Boswell, predeceased him aged 85 in January 2018.
