More than 70 dogs were entered into the St Peter Port Douzaine's competition to be named ‘Pooch of GY1’, which has been won by a Goldendoodle.

The competition was launched at the end of last year and was judged by the manager of the GSPCA, Steve Byrne.

“What an amazing selection of pictures of gorgeous dogs,” said Mr Byrne, “it wasn’t easy to choose a winner, but we had to choose one and the canine face of GY1 will be Flo a Goldendoodle, owned by Richard Cranch.”

The competition was thought up by newly-elected Constable Zoe Lihou and has been praised as a great community initiative.

“The competition proved very popular,” said St Peter Port's Dennis Le Moignan. “It was a great way to get our parishioners invested in a community project. We hope that this will be the first of a number of initiatives designed to get St Peter Port talking and joining in on parish activities.”

Mr Byrne commended Flo on her success as St Peter Port’s most photogenic dog.

“Good luck to Flo with all the duties as the face of GY1 canines and well done and thanks to all that entered.”
