Fire service feels the heat as the island swelters

Monday 09 July 2018

Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service has had to deal with two emergency call outs this afternoon; one of which was a gorse fire while the second turned out to be a "controlled burn."

The first out door fire was near Clos Des Pecqueries, St Sampson. Gorse and undergrowth was found alight and the crew had to put the flames out.

The Fire and Rescue Service first received the call out to Pleinheaume at 13:30. The fire was out by 15:00. No one was injured but the fire crew remained on the scene for some time damping the area down and ensuring everywhere was safe.

In the meantime, the Fire and Rescue Service was called to a reported fire near Shiloh Church, Vale.

The field adjacent to the church was described as being "alight" but on arrival the fire fighters found it was a "controlled burn". The person responsible for the fire was given advice on how to safely manage it.
