Final reminder for charities to apply for a Lottery Grant

Sunday 27 January 2019

Any charities intending to apply for a grant from the Christmas Lottery are being reminded that the deadline for applications is the end of January.

The Association of Guernsey Charities has already received some applications, but they are keen to ensure that no organisations miss the opportunity to apply for funding.

Although the amount of money raised by the lottery is not yet known, the Association has been told that it is more than in past years.

Malcolm Woodhams, AGC Chairman, said: “This will be the only opportunity for Guernsey charities to receive a lottery grant this year, and we always like to support as many projects and schemes as possible. The Christmas Lottery raises a substantial amount of money each year, and it is important that the proceeds are distributed to a wide selection of good causes which work throughout our community.

“We usually receive a large number of applications, each of which will be reviewed by the nine members of the AGC Council before we meet to discuss potential grant recipients. It is a thorough process, including inspection of the charity accounts. Our aim is that the lottery grants assist projects which will have the maximum impact in the island.”

Last year, £190,077 was distributed to Guernsey charities from the Christmas Lottery, helping 36 local organisations with a wide variety of projects.

Mr Woodhams added: “We aim to keep the application process simple and efficient to encourage as many charities as possible to apply. However, it is crucial that applicants fully complete the form with as much detail as possible. We need to clearly see the impact of the proposed service or project so that we establish where lottery grants will provide maximum benefit.”

The Association is also very grateful to everyone who supported the 2018 Christmas Lottery, as well as all of the shops and outlets that sold tickets.

Anyone wanting further information, or to apply for a grant, should download an application pack from the Association of Guernsey Charities website – www.charity.org.gg. Applicants will need to include a full set of annual accounts, together with quotes, where applicable.

Completed applications forms, accounts, and all supporting information, need to be submitted by Thursday 31 January.
