Fewer swimmers, but more miles and money

Monday 07 October 2024

The Skipton Swimarathon made a splash at Beau Sejour once more over the weekend, as hundreds of people took to the water in the name of charity.

Despite there being fewer people in the pool overall, the amount of money they raised increased, as did the amount of miles they covered.

In total 1,853 people swam lengths for charities, and even though that was 126 fewer than in 2023, close to £2,700 more was raised than at last year's event.

This year's event topped out at £63,241 whilst last year ended up at £60,543.

The amount of miles swam also improved, with 23 more kilometres being swum than the previous year.

The organisers have joked that: This clearly shows that the population of Guernsey is getting fitter”.

The money raised this year is going to the GSPCA.
