Festive electricity supply ensured for pay-as-you-go customers

Saturday 21 December 2024

Guernsey Electricity is reassuring pre-pay customers that they will stay connected during the festive season.

The company has extended its ‘friendly times’ for pay-as-you-go meters to include Christmas and New Year, where electricity supplies will not be automatically disconnected if top-up credit is not added during these periods when retailers close.

Guernsey Electricity (GE) revealed the friendly times will run from 16:30 on Christmas Eve to 09:00 on Friday 27 December and again from 16:30 on New Years Eve to 09:00 on Thursday 2 January.

GE said that customers using extra electricity will be charged when they next top up their accounts.

Steven Parks, Head of Customer Experience at the utility company said: “We would always encourage our pay as you go customers to ensure sufficient credit is applied to their meter in preparation of the festive period, we do appreciate it is a busy time and sometimes people can forget to top up their credit before the shops close.

“With the flexibility of these friendly periods, our pay-as-you-go customers will be able to cook their Christmas dinner with the knowledge of not losing their supply even if they have not been able to manage to top up beforehand.”

GE asks customers to check with individual retailers for their opening times over the festive period.

Prepayment top ups can be purchased from the following retailers:

  • Iceland – Vale Avenue
  • Checkers Xpress – Landes du Marché
  • Checkers Xpress – Collings Road
  • Candie Cache – Cambridge Park Road
  • Co-operative – The Market, Market Square
  • Jeffreys Garage – St Martin
  • Co-operative – Les Landes
