CIAS helps stricken yacht

Wednesday 02 October 2024

A yacht with just one man on board has been helped by the Channel Islands Air Search team after it suffered an electrical fault.

The CIAS crew helped track down the vessel, which was found 10 miles south west from Jersey’s coast, last night.

To make matters worse for the one man on board, the electrical fault had left him with no other means of communication available besides their mobile phone.

After the ‘Lions’ Pride’ located the boat, it stayed airborne and circled the spot whilst awaiting assistance from the RNLI in Jersey, whose crew swiftly towed the sailing boat back to harbour.

The entire operation took three hours from the Air Search crew leaving Guernsey, locating the vessel and returning safely home.

In a Facebook post, the Channel Islands Air Search posted their thanks to “the teams at Guernsey Airport, Jersey Coastguard and the RNLI, and to Tracy for dropping off croissants and orange juice for the crew on their return.”
