The ‘Wild About Guernsey Farming’ campaign celebrating the work of local dairy farmers will continue despite the emergency bailout of several farms earlier this year.
The campaign was launched earlier this summer to demonstrate how the industry produces high-quality, nutritional, and environmentally responsible products.
Andrew Tabel, Managing Director of Guernsey Dairy, told Express that geopolitics continues to affect local farming: “The difference to ensuring rising input costs, predominantly on feed, fuel, and fertiliser, were offset. Government support was provided directly to farmers as opposed to the Dairy increasing liquid milk prices which would have affected retail prices”.
Mr Tabel indicated that, despite those problems, the media campaign would continue: “it’s part of a wider campaign that has been running for the last two years aimed at increasing the awareness amongst islanders of the contribution the local dairy industry makes to the island’s cultural identity and by doing so ensuring a presence of the iconic local breed in her island home”.
The cost of the campaign was revealed to be £12,000, noted as being a “relatively small sum” when compared to the contribution and environmental benefit provided by farmers.

So far, several profiles of local farmers have been published and broadcast, as well as a car sticker competition, and setting up stalls showcasing the industry at “popular community events”.
The Dairy is planning to celebrate World School Milk Day at the end of the month in education settings and will launch another school initiative next year.
“Furthermore, we will continue to provide information reminding the community of the important role farming plays to island life,” said Mr Tabel.
“The campaign will continue throughout the year and into 2023 in the same way similar campaigns have developed in the UK.”
