"All you need is a pencil and paper"

Monday 23 March 2020

A local artist, who is best known for her face painting at local events, is offering a free, live streamed art lesson this morning for families who are stuck at home.

In her first half hour video on social media, Joni Nettleship will teach children and adults how to draw her well-loved unicorn.

"Like many other self employed people, I've had to temporarily close," she said. "I can't get out to paint, but I'm inviting people to draw with me instead.

"It's a very relaxing, therapeutic thing to do and really does help declutter your mind. I think it's also reassuring for children to see a friendly face - I've been face painting in Guernsey for five years now and am quite well known to many young children, who have often asked me, 'how do you do that?'.

"None of this is for profit, it's completely free and all you need is a pencil and paper."

As well as being a face painter, Joni is a qualified primary teacher with more than 20 years' experience of teaching art in schools.

"This is something that everyone can do - please join in with your children," she added. "It's going to be a regular, weekly event and I'll be encouraging children to share their drawings and artwork.

"This isn't an advanced course, it's not intended just for 'artistic people'. I really believe art is for everyone."

The first lesson will be live streamed at 11:00 on the 'Face Painting by Joni' Facebook page.
