Experience 'family fun and community spirit'

Sunday 05 May 2024

Babies to grandparents and everyone in between are invited to join in with the family fun aspect of this year's Saffery Rotary Walk.

Registration has now opened for the 'family walk'.

Rather than taking on the full 39 mile route, the family walk option enables groups to complete either the last two legs or the final leg of the round-island route.

The massive fundraising event, which is now in its 26th year, takes place on Saturday 8 June. This year it is raising money for 21 local charities.

The full walk starts and finishes in town, with the last two legs seeing participants walk from the north coast of Guernsey in to St Peter Port.

Participants of all ages and abilities are invited to join in, with the family walk route specially crafted to be accessible and enjoyable for young children, parents, grandparents, and everyone in between, said the organisers.

"Whether you're pushing a stroller, walking with toddlers, or embarking on a leisurely stroll with the whole family, there's something for everyone," they said.

Walk Chairman, Simon Milsted, added: “What could present a better opportunity for two or more generations to walk together and share in being part of this iconic Island event. Enjoy walking with those close to you and take in our wonderful coastal views while making a positive contribution to this year’s selected hard-pressed charities."

“The shared camaraderie between walkers, young and old, along with our island’s commitment to supporting many worthwhile local causes, is what the Walk is all about.”

Saffery Trust Director, Lisa Vizia said this is what the walk is all about.

“Inclusivity and accessibility are at the heart of the family walk route. We want children and young families to enjoy participating and feel a sense of accomplishment crossing the finish line.”

She continued: “We encourage you to rally a team together to enjoy Guernsey’s beautiful scenery while supporting 21 incredible charitable initiatives.”

It costs £40 to register for the Family Walk section of the Saffery Rotary Walk with other options available for walkers HERE
