Front-line policing prioritised over enquiries desk

Wednesday 29 September 2021

Police officers manning the enquiry office on Saturdays will be moved to front-line policing, starting from this weekend.

The opening hours of the office at Police Headquarters are changing to 07:00 -19:00 Monday to Friday only. It has previously opened to the public from 08:00 - 16:00 on Saturdays.

A police spokesperson confirmed the change with effect from Saturday, saying that it “supports the organisation’s desire to prioritise uniformed officers being utilised on front-line activities.”

“Uniformed officers were regularly required to support the operation of the enquiry office during weekend opening hours,” they said.

“Members of the public will always have access to an officer if needed, but from this Saturday are asked to contact JESCC (our control room) on 222222 / 725111 at weekends rather than calling into the Police Station in person.”

The police will no longer be able to accept found property or submissions of driving documents, for example.

Visitors with prior-agreed appointments to see Police Officers will still be able to access the station.
