Two people injured in an accident at the Weighbridge roundabout are said to be in a stable condition this morning after the Smart Car they were in crashed through railings and into a lamppost.

It was the only vehicle involved in the crash shortly before 18:00 yesterday evening.

The road was closed from immediately after the accident, at 17:50 for around four hours while specialist police officers started their investigations to try and work out what had happened.

From markings on the road, and eye witness accounts of the accident, it appears the car came from the Truchot, and crossed the northbound lanes of traffic heading towards the roundabout, before crashing through the railings and crossing the southbound lanes of traffic heading towards the Quay.

The car came to a halt after hitting a lamppost adjacent to the Weighbridge Clock Tower.

In a statement released this morning, Bailiwick Law Enforcement said officers had to keep the road closed for sometime after the accident.

"This was to allow specialist officers to conduct investigations around the nature of the collision. We’d like to thank the public again for their patience while this work was carried out."

The two people in the Smart car were both taken to hospital but the BLE spokesperson said they "are now in a stable condition".
