'Enhanced Saturday' services on the buses

Monday 08 June 2020

With all schools open fully again from today, buses are likely to be busier but passengers are asked to only use them if they have no alternative means of transport.

From today, and until further notice, there will be an ‘enhanced Saturday’ bus service with integrated school services on week days, to ensure there is room for the expected increase in passenger numbers.

Weekend services will be operating as normal from this week, with the exception of the published additional summer services that were due to operate between 11 April and 12 October. These summer services will also not be operating on week days, and the Friday and Saturday nightbus will also not be operating for the time being.

Passenger capacity will continue to be restricted in accordance with Public Health guidance on social distancing requirements with all passengers asked to follow on-board notices and any instructions issued by the driver and to remain vigilant with handwashing and hygiene before and after using the bus service.

Active travel methods such as walking or cycling are strongly encouraged to continue wherever possible, especially for pupils heading back to school.

Any essential workers who need to use the buses to get to work can call CT Plus on 700456 for further advice as to how you may be able to complete your journey as planned.

bus contactless payment

Passengers are reminded that cash fares are not currently being accepted on scheduled bus services but that contactless payment facilities are available on all buses. For those that do not have access to contactless, Pay as You Go (PAYG) ‘orange’ puffin passes are available at a cost of £5. These are available to purchase on board buses and from the kiosk. Cash payments can be processed at the Town Terminus Shop.

The provision of bus services will continue to be reviewed over the coming weeks, with Traffic and Highway Services saying it wished to thank CT Plus, its drivers and the general public for their support so far.
