Emergency responders will be putting their skills to the test while responding to a mock major incident involving a commercial passenger aircraft.
Guernsey Ports will bring together the island’s emergency services for Operation Jackdaw this weekend [Sunday 19 November].
“This exercise is designed to put our emergency policies and procedures to the test and assess the island’s response to a major incident involving an aircraft,” said the Managing Director of Guernsey Ports, Colin Le Ray.
“Thankfully, emergency incidents involving aircraft are rare, but they can happen and this simulation is designed to test our preparedness for such a situation. Public safety is our highest priority and this exercise will help inform Guernsey Ports’ emergency planning.
“Neighbours of Guernsey Airport may notice increased noise and activity from emergency service vehicles, and we ask for their patience and understanding during this time.”
The exercise will pull in expertise from Airport Fire and Rescue, Aurigny, St John Ambulance Service, Guernsey Fire and Rescue, Bailiwick Law Enforcement, the Princess Elizabeth Hospital, Civil Protection volunteers and the airport itself.
The terminal will remain open for people checking in for flights.
