A man has pleaded guilty in the Magistrates Court to stealing a car whilst under the influence of alcohol; following a crash where the car was left "embedded in scaffolding".
Grant Harvey, 19, stole an AFM business car from Pedvin Street, St Peter Port, and drove it without insurance or a driving licence, before crashing the vehicle at Les Merriennes, St Martins, striking scaffolding which was supporting a house opposite the M&S food hall.
Emergency services were called out just after 05:00 on Sunday 6 May, 2018, where they found the blue Hyundai which had crashed into the boundary wall of Merriennes Cottage and the scaffolding erected outside of it.
The road was closed just after 05:00 so that the emergency services could deal with the situation, with Civil Protection volunteers working with Guernsey Police to keep motorists away from the area. The road was blocked at each junction with Rue Poudreuse, Les Caches traffic lights and the Grande Rue/Rue Maze filter.
The scaffolding firm was also present at the scene before 08:00 to make sure the area was safe, before the road later reopened.

Harvey pleaded guilty to seven charges related to the incident before the Magistrates Court yesterday, including failing to stop and failing to report the accident.
The matter was adjourned until 12 July 2018 for sentencing. Judge McKerrell told Harvey that all sentencing options were open.
Harvey was released on bail with the condition not to drive or attempt to drive any motor vehicle.
