Documentary premiere raises £2,500 for 2024 Air Display

The premiere of a film by Lancaster Guernsey has raised £2,500 for next year’s Air Display.

‘Lancaster’ is a feature long film documenting the iconic plane and its use during World War II. The story is told via the experiences of the last surviving veterans.

“Starting with ‘The Blitz’, it follows 38 contributors as they join up, learn to fly and head to war. With the enemy strong and RAF Bomber Command badly equipped, losses were high, and the ‘Lanc’ was introduced,” said Lancaster Guernsey.

“For the last three years of the Second World War, the Avro Lancaster was the main heavy bomber used by Bomber Command to take the war to the heartland of Nazi Germany.”

200 people attended the premiere at the Performing Arts Centre and all the funds raised will now be put towards the 2024 Air Display, which’ll be the 60th year of the Red Arrows.

“The premiere was a massive success and we’re thrilled everyone who attended enjoyed the film,” said the Managing Director of Lancaster Guernsey, Paul Oliver.

It’s really important to remind ourselves of historical events like this and even more important to continue raising money for our local Air Display. The Display relies so much on corporate funding in order to get the best possible aircraft to visit the island, so it’s great to be able to host events like this to fundraise.

“Thank you to everyone who came to watch and supported the film, we’re looking forward to seeing the display once again in June.”
