Students witness caesareans and an amputation during Taste of Medicine course provided by the Medical Specialist Group.
The six students from the Sixth Form Centre and Elizabeth College were given a crash course in what it’s like to be a doctor, following in the footsteps of four Ladies College students who’d taken the course last month.
Each student shadowed ten different clinical sessions, attended theatre, and sat through a presentation from Dr Steve Evans, the Chair of the MSG.
“Watching all the operations was great, because you don't normally get to see this. It’s so interesting to see how they do it and how they interact with each other,” saidGracia van Zutphen.
Padraig McClay agreed: “I really enjoyed going to theatre. The novelty of it was a big thing and how it’s done is really interesting.”
The course was led by Dr Kalaivani Ramalingam, who said: “It was a really interesting week and good to hear the students’ many different perspectives from their varied experiences. I wish them all well, and hope they're successful in their medical applications.”
