Deputies Mark Helyar and Dave Mahoney resign from P&R

Friday 24 November 2023

Two members of Policy and Resources handed in their resignations just moments before a motion of no confidence debate in the entire Committee.

Deputies Mark Helyar and Dave Mahoney have handed in resignation letters to the Bailiff, Sir Richard McMahon.

The States Assembly is currently debating a motion of no confidence in P&R, a motion which was lodged by Deputy Charles Parkinson after P&R failed to get a Goods and Services Tax through the chamber.

It means that Deputies Helyar and Mahoney will be leaving the Committee whether or not the chamber votes for a motion of no confidence (MONC).

If the vote is successful they’ll be immediately removed from the role. If the vote is unsuccessful their resignations will only be effective as of the next States’ debate, which takes place on 12 December.

Their resignations have coloured debate, with some deputies suggesting it might be the reset the Committee needs.

Debate continues and you can follow our LIVE BLOG ONLINE.
