Regular visitor reopens refurbished Del Mar Court

Thursday 19 April 2018

A regular visitor to Guernsey, who has been staying at the Del Mar Court apartments in St Martins for more than fifteen years, has been given the honour of reopening them after a major improvement project.

Major building works to extend and improve the self-catering apartments took place over the winter months, before Ann Cartwright and her husband Phil returned to the island to enjoy the new-look facilities as the first guests of the 2018 summer season.

Work has been carried out to extend the one bedroom apartments to give a larger living room and also to extend the remaining two bedroom, one bathroom apartments to add an ensuite shower room and extend the living rooms.

Guernsey Self Catering's Sandra Berry said Mrs Cartwright was chosen to cut the ribbon because she is such a loyal guest: "When Ann had contacted us earlier in the year to discuss arrangements for her holiday in March, I had a thought that, as loyal repeat visitors and the first guests of the season, she might like to do the honours, especially as her family would be staying here too. We do hope all our guests will like what we have achieved and look forward to welcoming them."

Mrs Cartwright, who is originally from Guernsey, actively encourages people to give Del Mar Court a try: "I keep returning to Del Mar as we just love it here, Sandra and her team are so friendly and welcoming. All our family have fallen in love with  Guernsey and Del Mar Court. In fact one of our granddaughters even got married in Guernsey and all the family stayed at the apartments."

"The building works have been a real success, it looks great."

The good news is Mr and Mrs Cartwright will be returning in September to celebrate their sons' special birthday and he'll be bringing his friends to celebrate.

Mrs Berry says that her industry is still thriving, if you are prepared to invest in it. She said: "Although Tourism in Guernsey has its ups and downs we have always continued to reinvest - it is the only way to keep on top of refurbishment.  We did decide, over last winter, to carry out work on 15 apartments at Del Mar because splitting the work over two winters would have meant closing for two winters.  It was certainly worth the effort as we have just had our grading inspection and all the apartments extended have been given GOLD status so all of Del Mar is now 4 star GOLD."

Mike Hopkins, Director of Marketing and Tourism has praised Guernsey Self Catering's investment: "On behalf of VisitGuernsey I would like to congratulate Sandra Berry and her team on the opening of the refurbished and extended apartments at Del Mar Court for the start of the 2018 visitor season, this marks the culmination of several years of significant investment and hard work by Sandra and her team."

"I am sure that their many visitors will enjoy a fabulous and memorable experience as a result of all the hard work that has gone into providing them with such great accommodation.  We welcome their commitment to the industry, and we wish them every success for the coming season.”
