Deal on verge of being signed for Thai dining at Round Top Stores

Six years on from a States’ quest to find a commercial use of the Round Top stores a lease is on the verge of being signed.

The site at the end of Victoria Pier was one of six identified in August 2018 as part of plans to enhance the seafront.

In October 2019 the States announced its preferred bids for the site, which included Atan’s plans for al fresco Thai dining.

By mid-May last year, the company submitted a planning application for change of use of the building, which was being used to store fishing equipment.

“Guernsey Ports has been in dialogue with the prospective tenants of the Round Top Stores at St Peter Port Harbour to agree lease arrangements,” a spokesperson said.

“Negotiations are at a very advanced stage and we expect to reach agreement on contractual terms soon."

“The prospective tenants have successfully applied for and been granted planning permission for change of use of the site, and once the lease agreements have been finalised we hope to see the project progressed in the very near future.”

The application states that a catering unit, fencing, generator, outdoor furniture, a wheelchair accessible toilet, and planters would be installed.

A bar within a portable container has also been applied for.

Full planning permission was granted on 6 November, with a restriction placed on the generator so it can only run between 08:00 and 19:00.
