The Guernsey Dairy is calling for islanders to return blue and orange milk crates, as 3,000 are now missing since its last appeal.
The Dairy said that the crates “seem to be disappearing again” which is causing knock-on problems to their distribution of milk to restaurants, hotels, and supermarkets.
A previous appeal was launched two years ago after 1,000 crates went missing, and despite many being returned, the situation is now even worse, with 3,000 now missing.
“We are now nearly 3,000 milk crates short at the moment which makes our distribution process extremely challenging,” said Dave Domaille, production manager at Guernsey Dairy.
“If we were to replace the missing crates the cost would be astronomical - an expense the Dairy can ill afford.”
The Dairy believes that some crates are being used for groceries and for holding tools.
“We are not looking to prosecute anyone - we just need our crates returned. If they can do this as soon as possible that would help us enormously,” continued Mr Domaille.
Anyone who has seen crates around the island is asked to call 01481 227777 and the Dairy will collect them. Otherwise, crates can be delivered to the Dairy site at Bailiff’s Cross.
Each crate costs the Dairy approximately £14 to replace.
