Co-op to shut the doors on Bridge Locale

The CI Co-op will close its Bridge Locale store at the end of the month.

All staff will be relocated to different jobs with the company, while the Post Office provision will move back to the Grand Marche in Nocq Road.

That's where the post office was before the Co op opened its smaller Locale store on the Bridge in 2015, and moved the provision there.

“While it is with sadness that we announce the store closure at The Bridge, we are very pleased that all team members will be relocated, and no redundancies have been made,” said Mark Cox, Channel Island Coop CEO.

“We are also happy to announce that we intend to move the Post Office store. We believe the proposed new location at Nocq Road would be of great use and convenience to our local community and are hopeful of its continuity of service."

The Post Office will be located at the Kiosk area in the Grand Marche with no impact on other services like the pharmacy.

“As with many other retailers, we have faced many challenges in recent years. Nevertheless by making difficult decisions like this, it allows us to optimise the utilisation of our limited workforce, reduce costs and channel resources towards areas that make the most benefit our Members, team and community.”

The Bridge Locale's last day of trading will be Saturday 30 December.

The building it is located in is owned by the Coop, which has declined to comment on its future, but said the decision was not related to the long-awaited Leale's Yard development which it backs on to.
