Work begins on "state of the art" L'Aumone surgery

Tuesday 18 May 2021

Work has commenced on the multi-million pound construction of a completely new GP surgery at L'Aumone.

The 1,022-square-metre new build will have 12 medical consultation rooms, a pharmacy, and numerous supporting clinical services such as physiotherapy, osteopathy and psychotherapy.

It is hoped that the IslandHealth project will be completed by early 2023.

The L’Aumone Medical Centre will be an excellent clinical site, built to the very best standards in a central and convenient part of the island," said Dr Julia Rebstein, the Chair of IslandHealth.

The current L’Aumone surgery is getting close to the end of its working life and the time is right for us to make this investment.

"Our patients have told us that they feel very positively about the clinical care that is provided at the L’Aumone surgery, but the same can’t be said for the building itself."

Dr Rebstein promised much-improved access to the new site, with 60 parking spaces and dedicated access roads.

As for the premises itself, the ground floor will host all of the patient-facing services, with administrative and support staff on the upper floor of the two-storey building.

There will be no impact on patients during the early construction of the new build, according to the Practice's Project Lead Dr Robbie Hanna.

That is expected to change as the project advances, although details on the latter stages of the work have not yet been shared.

Dr Hanna said: "For several months patients will continue to see their GP as normal while the work in the adjoining field progresses to create the new building.

"Later on in the project as the new building gets closer to completion, there will be different arrangements in place.

"We will keep our patients and all our other stakeholders well informed about this as the project advances."

Dr Rebstein concluded: "We’re keen to get things underway and are already looking forward to when we can start seeing patients in our new state-of-the-art building."

IslandHealth also has surgeries at La Plaiderie in St Peter Port and at the St Sampson’s Medical Centre on Grandes Maisons Road.
