College Street one way for five days

Sunday 21 January 2018

College Street will be one-way temporarily, travelling downhill into Town, from this Monday, 22 January.

Sure is expected to take five days to work on its network along the road, affecting traffic flow in the area.

Traffic heading up St Julian's Avenue, out of Town, will be diverted left, along Ann's Place, and up St James Street, in order to bypass the works. Parking in Ann's Place and St James Street will be suspended for the duration of these works.

A spokesperson for Traffic & Highway Services said: "consideration was given to undertaking these working alongside the one-way in the Grange earlier this month. However, this would have created a longer diversion for traffic heading out of Town and cause greater inconviene to road users wishing to access many of the side roads adjacent to the Grange and College Street. In order to minimise inconvenience, given the short diversion, it was decided to separate the one-way schemes."

The spokesperson added that the short length of the works meant it was allowed to take place during the school term, something which would usually only be allowed during a school holiday due to the site's proximity to Elizabeth College.
