Hotel Jerbourg can build an accommodation block for staff members onsite, following a growing trend among hoteliers in the island.
Planning gave permission to ESS Limited for the two-storey building as well as fencing, a bin store, and a car port in December last year.
But this was on the condition that full landscaping scheme and the type of concrete tiles to be used is submitted to and agreed by the Development & Planning Authority prior to works starting.
Planners recommend that any planting should reinforce what’s already there, such as native and cliff appropriate species, while screening the view of the building from the main road.
The building can only be used by hotel employees.
An application was approved in December 2019 to demolish an existing staff accommodation unit at the site and to construct the two-tiered replacement, but permission expires if development hasn’t commenced within three years of approval
Other hoteliers have also been seen to take housing workers into their own hands recently.
St Pierre Park, part of the Hand Picked Hotels group, applied for and were granted permission to erect 12 staff flats on its grounds last year, while Les Douvres recently completed a rebuild of its neighbouring staff quarters into a two-storey building.
