Santa Claus is coming to Town!

Saturday 30 November 2019

Father Christmas is making his way to St Peter Port this evening and here's everything you need to know ahead of the big festive lights switch on.

The special guest is travelling with his Chief Elf on the Spirit of Guernsey Lifeboat, and is expected to arrive at the Model Yacht Pond at 15:55.

The pair will then board Le Petit Train at 16:10 and will travel along with the parade, which is being led by the Boys Brigade Band.

The group will head down to the South Esplanade, towards the Albert Pier and up Fountain Street, where members of the public are invited to watch and cheer on the characters.

The parade will finish in Market Square, where the switch on will take place once again this year. Father Christmas will turn on the lights with the Chief Elf at 17:00.

Although Father Christmas will be able to collect some letters, he is very busy and has asked that all children who don't have the chance to hand their letter in post it in the special post box in the Inner Street of the Market Buildings. The box will remain there until 9 December, giving children lots of time to post their wishes.

Anyone that feels put off by large crowds is encouraged to meet Father Christmas along the parade route, rather than in Market Square.

"Boys and girls, I am really looking forward to seeing all of your happy faces on my visit to Guernsey and switching on your Town Christmas lights," he said. "Don't forget to write your address on the back of your letter so that I can reply!"

The event has been organised by a committee of volunteers from the Young Business Group, in collaboration with Bailiwick Estates Ltd, the St Peter Port constables, St Peter Port Christmas Lights, States Works, Guernsey Police and sponsors, the Coates Group.
