Christmas bikes tradition continues

Sunday 25 December 2022

30 children will have woken up to a new bike and helmet this Christmas, thanks to a donation from the Sarah Groves Foundation.

This is the sixth year in a row that the charity has donated bicycles to less fortunate children as a festive surprise.

The bikes are all arranged by Ian Browns Cycle Shop, while the deserving recipients are chosen by Home-Start Guernsey, Kindred Children's Centre, Safer and Bright Beginnings Children's Centre.

A spokesperson for Home-Start Guernsey said: "Thank you so much for your ongoing support.

"There will be some very happy children this Christmas thanks to your generosity."

The Sarah Groves Foundation was launched in memory of Sarah Groves after she died in Kashmir nearly ten years ago.

Her parents, Vic and Kate aim to fulfil some of her aims in life in her memory. They say she loved children so young people are always at the forefront of all the Foundation does.

This has included providing Christmas bikes for more than a hundred local children and contributing tens of thousands of pounds to the redevelopment of the children's library.

Mr and Mrs Groves said that wanted to thank everyone who supports the Foundation for helping them to spread some Christmas joy.

"Thank you to all our supporters, near and far," they said, "for helping us to brighten the lives of others in Sarah’s memory.

"Wishing you all a safe and Merry Christmas period and a Happy New Year. With love from us all at the Sarah Groves Foundation."
