One hundred years of the Royal Air Force is being celebrated today at Castle Cornet.
Alan Brunger, President of the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) Guernsey branch, will be the guest of honour, firing the noon day gun.
He will be accompanied by members of the Guernsey Military History Company, who will be dressed in period costume.
Elsewhere in the Castle, members of the Company will host a 'new arrivals' tent, where today's visitors can imagine what it might have been like to sign up to the newly formed RAF 100 years ago. There will also be the chance to see original objects, ask questions and visit the 201 Squadron Museum.
A number of themed craft activities for children and families will be available.
The living history performance ‘Wildhawk Warneford’ will be performed twice during the day at 12:10 and 14:15. This monologue tells the story of Rex Warneford from 201 Squadron, who won the VC after becoming the first man to destroy a Zeppelin during the First World War.
The living history and activities will run from 10.00-16.00 with the Castle open 10:00-17:00.
Normal admission applies, with Discovery Pass holders and accompanying children admitted free.
