Calls for sponsorship as Harbour Carnival plans rev up

Tuesday 25 June 2024

The iconic Harbour Carnival will be returning to the St Peter Port seafront this year, and the organisers are once again calling for entries to the three big events, and event sponsors to step forward.

The Harbour Carnival is organised every year by the Guernsey Round Table, a fundraising organisation that has been involved for decades.

The classic events will be returning, including the corporate Duck Race, the Tug of War, the Man Powered Flight competition, and the Ladies Dinghy Race.

"The event is hosted on the town seafront with three brilliant interactive events,” said Oscar Webber, the President of the Guernsey Round Table.

"You kick it all off with the big corporate Duck Race, then the LadiesDinghy Race, which was incredibly popular last year.

"The really, really competitive event is the Tug of War, which is always, every yearwon by the Harbour Lights. So, they really want to have some proper competition this year!”

Oscar said, as preparations begin for the event, the main push is to secure sponsorship, which helps cover the costs of putting on a free event for the public.

“The donationmainly come from the corporate ducks. So, a company can enter a duck, we put your logo on the duck, you can design the duck if you want to... you can get creative, put some glitter on... there is even a best dressed duck award!”

"We're looking for flagship sponsors as well. So being able to sponsor the three main events and have your branding all over them.”

The majority of the sponsorship raised goes towards supporting the event and its future in Guernsey, however a portion does go to charity.

"Putting on the event is the main cost. It is technically one of the biggest free to enter fully interactive events on the seafront, which is quite a rare thing.

"If we raise enough off the back of the event, that money then goes straight to our main beneficiary, which this year is Channel Island Air Search.

The event this year is being held on 23 August and promises fireworks, food and lots of fun. You can sponsor one of the following events (or ducks) by heading the Round Table WEBSITE.
