Reluctant men urged not to ignore covid symptoms

Tuesday 02 February 2021

A call has been made by the States for men to come forward if they have any Covid-like symptoms.

During this week’s corona virus media briefing, Guernsey’s Medical Director made a plea specifically for men to take their health seriously and to seek a test if they are feeling unwell.

“We know that men are less likely to seek out healthcare,” said Dr Peter Rabey.

“The community survey for the last outbreak shows that women are twice as likely to have been tested during that time as men."

If any of us start to experience any of the symptoms above we should contact the Clinical Helpline for assistance. You can call either 756938 or 756969.

Following advice from the helpline, you might be asked to come in for a test. The scheduling team will aim to get symptomatic people booked in with 24 hours of calling the helpline.

With figures climbing by roughly forty positive cases a day, it’s more important than ever to highlight any symptoms we might have.

“Please gentlemen,” concluded Dr Rabey, “if you have any Covid like symptoms, don’t ignore them, call the helpline and get tested.”
