Bus terminus paper shop vandalised again

Monday 25 March 2019

The paper, book and magazine shop at the bus terminus has been hit by vandals for the second time in 12 months.

Guernsey Police are appealing for witnesses or information after damage was caused to the stall sometime between 23:00 on Sunday and 00:30 this morning.

The vandals attacked the shutters covering the main opening on the stall, which a spokesperson for the small shop said was bad enough that they would need replacing.

That spokesperson added that it had happened in a brief period of time after the owner had left the premises yesterday evening.

Just some weeks ago a number of teenagers appeared in court linked to damage at the shop. They were caught on CCTV, which covers the area permanently, breaking through the very same shutters and stealing miscellaneous items like cigarettes and scratch cards - all on the 6 May 2018. Those teenagers were seen on the camera footage playfully trying to break through the shutters, until they actually managed to do so. One of them then climbed inside to steal the items.

Reportedly following that incident, the shutters had to be replaced and reinforced - the shop will now have to do the same again.

Police ask that if anyone has information on this latest incident, could they contact PC177 Le Galloudec on 725111, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
