Brexit boats warning

Friday 05 April 2019

As Brexit, and the potential chaos it may bring with it, continues to loom over us, Guernsey boat owners are being warned about new procedures that will be brought in by France if the UK leaves with 'no-deal'.

In the event of a no-deal, French Authorities have reportedly been planning to arrange that visitors to the country coming from the Channel Islands by sea will have to report to a Frontieres Martimes Port Office to go through customs and immigration.

When this has been done, sailors will be allowed to move freely between other French ports, including marinas that are not designated Frontieres Martimes.

This message was this week passed on to all members of the Guernsey Yacht Club.

The ports with offices able to clear you through customs in Normandy are:

  • Cherbourg
  • Granville
  • Carteret

And in Brittany are:

  • St Malo
  • Brest
  • Roscoff

Guernsey Harbours has not yet received an official confirmation of this from French Authorities, however it should be considered while planning any trips to the country in the case of a no-deal Brexit outcome.

The Yacht Club said it would be issuing any updates as soon as possible.
