Boat licence renewal deadline nears

Sunday 26 November 2023

Any regulated passenger and cargo vessels which operate in Alderney and Sark waters need to check their licences and renew them before the end of the year if their expiration date is nearing.

The Lieutenant Governor's office is responsible for shipping licences and it's noted that some currently issued are close to expiration.

As the licensing authority, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor is "urging current operators to check their licences and to apply to renew them if necessary".

Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Major Marco Ciotti said it's very easy to do so.

"Some of the licences that operators currently hold will expire on 31 December, so now is the time to check your licence and see if you need to apply for a new one. It is a simple process and there is no charge involved."

Under existing legislation, subject to certain specific exceptions, all passenger and cargo shipping services to and from Alderney and Sark must be operated in accordance with licences granted by the Lieutenant-Governor.
