A team of hospital staff are putting their strength to the test today with a 'bed push' through Town, in aid of new equipment for patients with dementia.
The event, which has been organised by the Carey Ward staff, will see a group of people push a bed from the Albert Pier, up the Lower Pollet, through the High Street and back.
It gets underway from 10:00 and is expected to last for about half an hour.

Staff dressed in 1960s-style clothing will follow the route with collection buckets, encouraging passers-by to donate towards the cause.
Dementia is used to describe a number of symptoms including memory loss, periods of mental confusion, changes in personality and mood as well as difficulties with problem solving, language, thinking and concentration.
People with the condition may become apathetic and lose interest in activities they used to enjoy, or they may have difficulty controlling their emotions. Some dementia patients can become withdrawn from social interaction and could also develop depression.

During the earlier stages of dementia, there are a number of activities patients can take part in to help maintain independence and keep their brain active. The money raised will go towards equipment for the hospital which will be available to patients with dementia.
"In addition to jigsaws, colouring books and reading books, which help stimulate brain activity, the Carey Ward team are hoping to raise enough money to purchase iPads and other smart devices on which we can install apps designed to benefit people with dementia," said Senior Sister for the ward, Debi Harris.
