The 60th anniversary of The Beatles performing at Candie Gardens will be celebrated through a new exhibition later this year, with a programme of musical events and galleries planned.
The legendary Liverpudlian quartet performed to a packed auditorium on August 8 1963 after being brought over by Baron Pontin.
Hits enjoyed by the ’63 crowd would have included Twist and Shout, Please Please Me, Love Me Do, and I Saw Her Standing There.
John, Paul, George, and Ringo spent the next seven years touring the world and produced 13 timeless albums, becoming one of the most successful and recognisable bands in music history.
To commemorate their impact on the local community, Guernsey Arts is curating and hosting an exhibition featuring local artists and bands within Candie’s greenhouse gallery.
There will also be a homage to local photographer Fiona Adams who snaped the iconic EP cover for Twist and Shout – which was described as one of the defining images of the 20th Century by the National Portrait Gallery.

Guernsey Arts have partnered with Skipton International to deliver the programme.
Russ Fossey, Head of Arts Development at Guernsey Arts, thanked the bank for its support: “Skipton International champions community values, quality and excellence.
“We are grateful for their support in helping us to bring back the innovative spirit of The Beatles to Candie Gardens - and for helping us to reinterpret their works and shake it up visually in a new light with our vibrant arts community.
“Photography, Visual Arts, Music and Performance will all have a place in celebrating this iconic anniversary and with the help of Skipton, we look forward to inspiring islanders to engage with this initiative.”
Aaron Walden, Senior Commercial Manager at Skipton International, said support has been offered to ArtHouse Jersey for several years and now is the time to support the arts locally.
“The Beatles are such an iconic band, who were true trailblazers in their field. Celebrating the 60th anniversary of their performance in Candie Gardens, plus the concept of creating new memories for the island’s community to share and celebrate made it an easy decision for us,” he said.
“I’d encourage everyone in Guernsey, young or old, to engage with this fabulous initiative and to come and view it throughout the summer.”

Events begin on July 21 and will run to September 3.
Special music events are planned for August 6 and 8.
Guernsey Arts is also asking anyone with a memory or memento from the ’63 performance to share it with the team at info@arts.gg.
