On Monday 16 September, the Healing Music Trust’s visiting musicians will begin a tour to spread smiles across the island, for people who could really use them as part of their silver anniversary celebrations.
They’ll visit over 30 nursing and care homes, hospital wards, day centres, schools and drop in clubs and there’ll also be a special reception for invited guests.
That will be hosted at GROW, one of the regular destinations on the charity's calendar.
The charity got its start in 1999 thanks to local resident Richard de la Rue.
During the 1990s he had seen the work of the UK charity ‘Music in Hospitals and Care’ and loved it, but unfortunately it didn’t extend to Guernsey.
So, before the turn of the millennium Richard set about removing the travel and accommodation hurdles, in order to get musicians to Guernsey, and in that, the Healing Music Trust was founded.

The charity's goal is a simple one: to provide a live concert and musical experiences to those who can’t go to one themselves.
Those who are confined by illness or other circumstances are among those who benefit but the Trust also gives a moment of respite to carers.
Many carers report that patients and residents speak about the concerts long after the event, and continue singing along after the musicians have left the building.
The tours arranged by the charity take place five times a year, visiting 35 venues and reaching 1,000 people per tour.
