Anyone heading to the beach needs to remember the 'Beach Code' which is aimed at preventing glass and other dangerous materials from being left on the sands.
With the temperatures reaching into the 20s this week. the beaches have been getting increasingly busy.
The States issued a reminder ahead of this weekend asking people to take their litter home with them or place it in an appropriate bin.
"This includes cigarette butts and vapes which have been found on beaches recently," the statement warned.
Andy McCutcheon, Principal Environment Services Officer, said it's worrying to hear of glass and other material also being left behind.
“The warm weather we’re enjoying is perfect for heading to the beach, but we need to make sure we’re considerate in how we act so that it is enjoyable for all of us," he said.
“Reports of glass on the beach is a real concern. Broken glass is a safety hazard anyway, but what makes it even more dangerous on the beach is that we all normally walk around with nothing on our feet, and understandably because you shouldn’t expect to find broken glass there! Please take reusable plastic containers instead to avoid risk to yourself or others who will use the beach.”
The Beach Code includes the following messages:
Show respect for all other beach users
Keep music to a volume which does not disturb other people or wildlife
Check the time and height of high tide to ensure you can exit the beach
Enjoy viewing wildlife from a safe distance and do not approach
For barbeques and contained fires you should follow the safety standards at gov.gg/beachbbq
