Bailiwick to enjoy a 'Big Day Out'

Sunday 02 August 2020

A fun day celebrating the island’s progress into phase five will be staged on 16 August as a 'thank you' to the community.

The Bailiwick Big Day Out, organised by a small group of entrepreneurs and sponsored by Julius Baer, will be a celebration of community spirit.

It will be a family friendly event to showcase the island’s talent and produce, whilst also raising funds for local charities.

There will be a variety of stalls and entertainment including live music, a raffle, art displays, a children’s story corner, face painting and bouncy castles.

"This event is a thank you to everyone who has played their part in getting us to this stage by showing their excellent community spirit," said Organiser Liz Taylor-Kerr.

“Now is the time to support local businesses and charities and what better way than to have lots of them in one fun-filled place.”

"We’re so grateful to have the support of His Excellency as well as Dr Brink, who will be reading a story, and Deputies St Pier and Soulsby.’

The Lieutenant-Governor, Vice Admiral Sir Ian Corder, said the event would give much-needed support to local charities and small businesses.

"The corona virus has impacted all our lives, both at work and at home, but it’s been heartening to see the patience, fortitude and innovation with which islanders have responded," he said. "We are pleased to be able host this event, which aims to give much needed support to local charities and small businesses as we start our recovery."

Parking will be available at Beechwood College and a park and ride service from Town will be operated by the Petit Train and Island Taxis.

More information about some of the stalls, activities, and their sponsors can be found on the event's Facebook page.

The event will take place between 10:00 and 16:00.
