Sunday 03 December 2023

International bowls star Lucy Beere has been presented with her MBE.

She received the medal from Guernsey’s Lt-Governor Richard Cripwell in a ceremony at Government House.

Beere was awarded the MBE in the New Years Honours List for services to bowls in Guernsey.

His Excellency, Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell, said: “I watched Lucy Beere competing last year in Birmingham at her fourth Commonwealth Games and was struck not only by her world class sporting ability, but also by her capacity to stay focused under immense pressure.

“She is an outstanding sporting ambassador for Guernsey, and it has given me great pleasure to present her with the MBE today, on behalf of His Majesty The King.’

Beere learned to play bowls in her native Isle of White.

She won Guernsey’s first Commonwealth Games medal in 28 years when she took silver in Birmingham last year.

In all, Beere has resented the island four times at the Games and she has won 256 international caps for Bowls Guernsey and 18 international medals.

They include four European Championship golds and she was crowned the Indoor Women’s Singles World Champion at the 2018 World Cup in Australia.

Domestically she has claimed 16 Channel Island titles, including being crowned women’s singles champion five times.
