Contingency measures have been agreed to ensure that flights to Alderney will go on while one of the Dorniers is stood down for annual maintenance.
Aurigny have made an agreement with Scilly Isles Skybus to lease one of their Twin Otter craft, but only if it becomes a necessity.
The Twin Otter is a similarly-sized aircraft to Aurigny's Dornier aircraft, but reportedly comes with some "operational limitations" that the Dornier do not have. Should it need to be used, an Aurigny spokesperson said that they may need to amend schedules, or complement the service with a boat.
The Skybus crew will be tested for Covid, and must fully satisfy the requirements outlined by Guernsey Public Health before they operate any services on behalf of Aurigny.
"Over the last six months our relationship with Alderney has greatly improved, and we have been proud to have been part of their 'Staycation' success," said Aurigny Chief Executive Mark Darby. "We want to maintain that rapport, and therefore have put measures in place that we hope we may not need.
"We understand the importance of connectivity to Alderney, especially at this time, and want to avoid any widespread disruption resulting from a single aircraft operation."
