Aurigny pricing changes kick in: do we benefit?

Thursday 26 April 2018

Aurigny's new price structure was implemented overnight, and has mostly across the board seen fares reduced by £10, without any baggage included.

But those travelling with luggage will be spending more than before, with options to either upgrade their tickets or to add luggage to a light fare. Either of these options will see passengers paying approximately £18 more than before for the same amount of hold luggage.

The new system is three-tiered.

On flights checked by Express this morning, to upgrade to a ticket that allows you 23kg of hold luggage - a smart fare - it will cost between £20 and £30 more than the Light fare depending on the flight.

There is also a Flexi fare for approximately £150 more than the Light fare, on the flights Express checked. The Flexi fare waves change fees, is fully refundable, offers extra leg room and two sets of luggage.

Adding a hold bag to a Light fare costs £19 for 20kg and £25 for a 23kg bag.

On average, not accounting for tickets remaining available on flights, that works out at the average flight to Gatwick being £18 more return with the same luggage as allowed on the previous fare system.

Previously, a ticket with 20kg of luggage included costed only £10 more than a fare with no baggage does now. So overall, a traveller planning on not bringing hold-luggage is better off, but anyone else will be charged a minimum of £10 more each way.

Aurigny said its site went offline at 20:00 on Wednesday 25 April to make the updates, and it came back online at 07:00, on Thursday 26.

Below are images of Aurigny's lowest fare finder on both the 25 April (before the changes) and the 26 April (after the changes) for flights to London and Manchester.

Now, with hold luggage not included in the standard fare, there is also a system to add it to your ticket.

The new system itself has been in the pipeline for a number of months now, and the public have been waiting to see if they will truly benefit from the new pricing structure.

The States-backed airline also put its new website live last week.
